PM greets Indian diaspora on Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas

The Prime Minister remarked in a tweet, "On Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, greetings to everyone, especially the Indian diaspora. Our diaspora has made a name for itself over the world and succeeded in a variety of fields. They have stayed loyal to their roots at the same time. We are pleased with their achievements.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas is celebrated on January 9 to strengthen the Indian community's involvement with the Indian government and reunite them with their heritage. It is commemorated to honour the contributions of Indians residing in other countries to the development of the homeland of their forefathers.

V. Muraleedharan, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, will speak at a virtual Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas conference on "the role of Indian diaspora" in innovation and new technology.

The date of January 9 was chosen because it was on this day in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest Pravasi, returned to India from South Africa and led the country's Freedom Struggle, which permanently transformed the lives of Indians.

These conferences, which began in 2003, provide a forum for the Indian community in the United States to connect with the government and people of their ancestral homeland for mutually beneficial activities. These conferences are also beneficial in facilitating networking among the overseas Indian population residing in various areas of the world and allowing them to share their expertise in a variety of professions.
