FIR filed against Hurriyat leaders under ‘Pakistan funding terrorism’ case

June 03, 2017: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed FIR against the top Hurriyat leaders, including Syed Ali Shah Geelani and LeT Chief Hafeez Syed.

Geelani's name was also found under the Preliminary Enquiry.

The FIR was lodged after the Hurriyat leaders were seen on a video affirming that they have been funded by Pakistan to cause unrest in the Kashmir Valley (sting operation carried out by India Today). The organization holds strong separatist ideologies.

Along with the FIR, an investigation was also carried out. A total of 21 sites were raided. 14 locations were raided in Kashmir, which included the residences of Bitta Karate, Javed Baba Gazi, and Naeem Khan. These leaders have always created unrest and chaos in Kashmir to meet their ultimate goal of separation.

Furthermore, 7 more locations were raided in Delhi and Haryana. Investigating agencies say they have reports of businessmen from Delhi and Haryana supporting this fund transfer and are directly involved in sending money to separatists in Kashmir. The businessmen are identified.

Cash worth Rs 1 crore was recovered by the NIA from a raid in Delhi and Srinagar. NIA reveals that the hawala operators operate starting from Chandni Chowk and Ballimaran in Delhi to Srinagar.

Hurriyat's main source of funding is through hawala and cross-border trade. The three Hurriyat leaders had agreed to receive funds from Pakistan through different channels.

Bitta Karate also confessed on the video by India Today that he has killed a few Kashmiri Pandits, which angered the Pandits. Shouting slogans of 'we want justice', the Kashmiri Pandits are urging J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to take a strong action.

Many arrests are expected to follow after due investigations by the NIA.
