ICSE new Syllabus to include Harry Potter, Tintin, Amar Chitra Katha and lots More!

November 25, 2016: If you wish to read your favourite comics and gain some good marks, get admission in the ICSE School near you. Yes, you heard it right!

The Council of Indian School of Certificate Examination, that conducts the ICSE and ISC board examinations, is all set to add more contemporary literature to the syllabus. The council is introducing popular titles like Harry Potter, Tintin, etc. from the next academic year.

According to HT, the curriculum will have inspiring biographies of APJ Abdul Kalam, Malala Yousafzai and Anne Frank, popular series like 'The Hobbit', 'The adventures of Tintin' and Amar Chitra Katha. Along with these, the new academic session will bring in a uniform syllabus for both the primary and junior schools.

The new curriculum was released on November 23, this year, at the 59th annual conference of the Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate (ISC) held at City Montessori School, Kanpur Road, Lucknow.

The Council's Chief Gerry Arathoon said to HT, "the curriculum caters to a varied and diverse range of individual differences, intelligence and abilities and provides a plethora of opportunities to enjoy the learning experience through the integration of generic skills, values and attitude in key learning areas."

He added that in an ever advancing knowledge-based society it is important for children that they are equipped with a variety of skills and a positive attitude. We need to prepare the future generations to meet the challenges of the dynamically changing environment.

HT report mentioned that pre-primary classes will have characters like Noddy in their curriculum. The other interesting additions to the curriculum are Holmes, Feluda, Poirot. The syllabus will have popular graphic novels including American cartoonist Art Spiegelman's Holocaust saga 'Maus'.

Modifications are introduced in other subjects as well. The syllabus of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology has been designed keeping in mind the national engineering and medical examinations.

Arathoon further added, Mass media and communication are also being introduced as elective subjects for ICSE and ISC students.
