India’s Cultural and Religious Heritage provides Unique opportunity for Tourism, says Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma

London, November 8, 2016: Tourism Minister, Mahesh Sharma, on Monday said, India is a tourist destination as it has got a rich and diverse religious and cultural heritage which a provides an opportunity for tourism.

According to PTI, while addressing the 'World Travel Market (WTM) 2016', which is one of the largest international events of the travel and tourism industry in London, he said, "the architecture of India's temples, palaces, forts, the grandeur of its sculptures, and the beauty of its paintings, all offer an unparalleled experience."

India is the official Premier Partner at WTM 2016 with the theme – 'India – The Land of Eternal Heritage'.

He also added, "The desert circuit in Rajasthan, snow-bound Himalayas, backwaters of Kerala, and the beaches of Goa are very popular with international tourists".

India has got 35 World Heritage Sites including the cultural properties and bio-geographical zones.

"India has a rich and diverse natural, cultural, and religious heritage which provides a unique opportunity for tourism," the minister said.

The minister said that the Indian tourism outlook is very promising with an upswing in the growth of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in the recent years, in India.

The minister informed that India has set a target to achieve one per cent of international tourists through a multi-pronged approach which includes proactive marketing plans in partnership with the tourism stakeholders.
