Samajwadi Party Crisis: UP CM Akhilesh Yadav says he won’t Form a New Party

Lucknow, October 24, 2016: To put an end to speculations, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said that he will not be forming a new party and would step down if Mulayam Singh Yadav, the party supremo desires so.

According to PTI report, "Akhilesh broke down while addressing a meeting of party legislators, ministers and MPs convened here by Mulayam Singh Yadav at the party headquarters, outside which supporters of rival SP factions exchanged blows prompting police to use force to disperse them."

Amid the protests from his supporters, Akhilesh Yadav offered to step down as CM if Mulayam Singh Yadav so desired.

"Let 'netaji' (Mulayam) install a chief minister who he feels is honest," he said.

In an emotionally choked voice, he said, "Why should I form a new party?"

At the meeting he said, for all these years he had toiled hard only for the welfare of the people.

"Merey pita, merey guru hain (my father is my guru)" he said.

The UP Chief Minister further added that many people were trying to create divisions within his family by using various means but he now knows how to oppose any wrongdoing.

Even much before the meeting began; the tension was palpable as the supporters of Akhilesh Yadav mounting pressure on the leadership in support of the chief minister.
The crisis in the family unfolded yesterday when Akhilesh held a meeting of party legislators, just a day before the mega meeting of party MPs, MLCs, MLAs, and ministers called by Mulayam Singh Yadav.

After the meeting, the UP Chief Minister recommended to Governor Ram Naik that Shivpal Yadav, Narad Rai and Om Prakash Singh (all Cabinet ministers) as well as Sayeda Shadab Fatima (MoS – Independent charge) to be sacked from his ministry. This was immediately accepted.

"Mulayam Singh Yadav, in a tit-for-tat action expelled Ramgopal, pro-CM cousin and SP's national general secretary, from the party for six years."

The party plunged itself into one of the worst-ever crisis days ahead of its silver jubilee and at such a crucial time when the Assembly elections were barely a few months away.
