But he admitted that he find solace in the totems.
"If I feel tired, or I feel discouraged sometimes, I can kind of reach into my pocket and say yeah, that's something I can overcome, because somebody gave me the privilege to work on these issues that are going to affect them," he said.

In 200, the Economic Times reported that Obama the first-ever Black-American representative of a major US party for Presidential elections always keeps a gambler's lucky chit, a bracelet belonging to an American soldier deployed in Iraq, a tiny monkey god and tiny Madonna and child.
In his book, Dreams from My Father, Obama unveiled the fact that his step-father Lolo Soetoro introduced him to Lord Hanuman when he lived in Indonesia. He wrote, "There standing astride the road was a towering giant at least ten stories tall wth the body of a man and a face of an ape. That's Hanuman, Lolo said as we circled the statue, the monkey-god. I turned around in my seat, mesmerized by the solitary figure, so dark against the sun, poised to leap into the sky as puny traffic swirled around his feet."He's a great warrior," Lolo said firmly,"strong as a hundred men. when he fights the demons, he's never defeated."
