This year in 2016, Karate enthusiasts across the City of Joy, Kolkata, will have something to look forward to!

Dates and venue for the 2nd International Open Karate Championship 2016 have been announced and needless to say, once again Kolkata will be filled with more than 2000 experienced karate talents across the globe. The participants shall pour in the famous Khudiram Anushilon Kendra and Netaji Indoor Stadium from August 5 – 7 August 2016 to demonstrate their skills and fight for one of the most prestigious events of the year. Judges will speculate the performance of state, national and internationally acclaimed Karatekas from Worldwide.

Many countries are taking part in this mega event- Singapore, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Uzbekistan are to name a few. It is expected that there will be more than 15,000 footfalls in the mega event and about 10,000 Karate Kids are likely to participate, to see the best fighter from India and abroad.

Moreover, first-time Referees and Judges from Asian Karate Federation (Recognized by Olympic Council of Asia) and World Karate Federation (Recognised by International Olympic Committee) will judge the entire tournament.

The flow of the events would start sharp at 9am on 5th August 2016 at Khudiram Anushilon Kendra with all senior events followed by cadet and junior events till 7pm. On 6th August 2016, the events will start at 9am sharp with all children group below 6years onwards above. On the 3rd and last day of the event, Team Kumite event will be held in Netaji Indoor Stadium where history would be created in Bengal as the Champion teams will be awarded cash prizes of INR 50,000 (Champion), INR 25,000 (Runner-up) and INR 15,000 each (Joint 3rd) same as Cricket Teams get cash award in IPL.

Karate has been included in 2020 Olympics and such kind of tournaments shall not only popularize this sport but also motivate the aspiring young buds to do better and aim for the ultimate result in future.

The event is being organized by none other Shihan Premjit Sen, President Karate Association of Bengal. Karate in Bengal has developed tremendously under his supervision and leadership since more than a decade now. He has been successfully training lakhs of karate kids nationally under his banner All India Seishinkai Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Federation. He is himself an 8th Dan Balck Belt from Japan also Referee of World Karate Federation and President of Karate-Do Association of Bengal.
