New Delhi: Former Punjab police chief KPS Gill on Wednesday wrote a letter to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal complaining against Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's role in the functioning of Hockey India.
In the letter, Gill alleged that Jaitley got his daughter Sonali Jaitley appointed as the counsel of Hockey India when he was member advisory body.
"Shree Arun Jaitley being the advisor of Hockey India League having no Hockey connection whatsoever have got his daughter appointed on the Legal Committee of Hockey India League and reportedly paid huge sums. Shree Arun Jaitley being a very senior minister in the Government should either resign as a Minister or from the Advisory Board of the Hockey India League," the former top cop wrote in his letter.
Raising questions over "financial irregularities and functioning" of Hockey India, Gill wrote to Kejriwal that the Delhi CM could find all the answers if he uncovers in the "relationship between Jaitley and Batra".
Narinder Dhruv Batra is currently president of Hockey India.
"The company that is paid a percentage as commission for bringing in sponsors, the rent that is shown as paid for the office [at Mohan Co-operative Industrial Estate, Mathura Road, New Delhi] that is being used by Hockey India, the Lalit Hotel is the only hotel used for stay of teams/FIH [hockey's world governing body] officials during international tournaments, whether the arrangement for their is finalised after following a due process which is transparent, whether entertainment tax paid during the HIL held in Delhi, the salaries paid to the Indian and foreign staff and why the discrimination between the Indian and foreign players, umpires and officials where payments are concerned," Gill wrote.
"You may find the answers to your questions as to what is the relationship between Jaitley and Batra."
Gill concluded: "Your prompt and immediate action in this matter of financial irregularities and functioning of Hockey India needs to be taken up on top priority for the further promotion and development of sports in India and Hockey in particular."
This came as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers on Wednesday protested outside Jaitley's residence here and demanded his resignation over alleged corruption in the DDCA.
Top AAP leaders, including former minister and party MLA Somnath Bharti, were present as the protestors shouted slogans like "Arun Jaitley must resign".
Jaitley on Monday filed a defamation suit against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders and sought Rs.10 crore in damages for their statements regarding the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) affairs.
The Delhi government set up a commission of inquiry to probe alleged corruption in the cricket body.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Rajyawardhan Singh Rathore accused Kejriwal of using abusive language against Jaitley's entire family and running away from his promises of ushering in the politics of no corruption.
