New Delhi: The Delhi government on Sunday initiated the process of disbursing compensation cheques to the victims of the 1984 Sikh riots. A total of 1,320 families received compensation today. The remaining 1,800 families would get their cheques within the next 10 days.
Speaking at the ceremony, deputy CM Manish Sisodia said that unless we develop our thinking, episodes like the anti-Sikh riots will continue.
"Nothing has changed after 31 years. Episodes like Dadri and Haryana continue even today. The police still sends its force to check if people are eating beef. If we don't want more such incidents, we need to develop our minds," he said.
Allegedly 3000 Sikhs were massacred in the riot which many claimed to be backed by the Congress. There were even allegations that voting lists were used to identify Sikh families.
