New York: Popular Indo-Canadian online personality and comedienne Lilly Singh, also known as Superwoman, has won an award for the 'Best First-Person Series', a media report said.

Beating four other online personalities, Singh won the 'Streamy Award' at the VH1's '5th Annual Streamy Awards' function that was held in Los Angeles on September 17, India-West online portal reported on Friday.

Born to parents originally from Punjab, Lilly Singh is strongly connected to her Punjabi heritage. In her YouTube channel – ||Superwoman||, she speaks mostly on daily issues faced by the youth –especially today's average Punjabi youth– and holds a comic, yet humanitarian approach to various topics. The comedienne who sports tattoos in the Punjabi script on her left and right wrist reading Nirbhau (without fear) and Nirvair (without hate), has in her interview with People magazine, spoken about her long period of depression and how she started making videos as a process of self-healing and to make others feel happier.

"Feeling so blessed and grateful for winning Best First Person Series at the #Streamys tonight," Singh tweeted after receiving the award.

"I've got to thank Team Super, my fans — you are the most loyal, dedicated, passionate, wonderful people. For my friends, my family, my parents, who let me not be a doctor—a thank you," she was quoted as saying in an 11-second acceptance speech video.

The 26-year-old was also nominated for the 'Entertainer of the Year' award but lost to 21-year-old Cameron Dallas of Chino Hills, California.

On September 11, Singh entertained her fans at 'YouTube FanFest Australia' by performing on her songs "LEH" and "IVIVI" to a full house at Qantas Credit Union Arena in Sydney.
