Modi relents to public pressure, takes back stand on land acquisition ordinance

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Sunday that, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conceded to public pressure by taking back his stand on the land acquisition ordinance.

"Modi had to go back on the land acquisition ordinance. He had to step back. This is the biggest victory for people," the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader said while addressing the Swabhiman rally organised by the JD-U, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress alliance at the Gandhi Maidan here.

The rally was attended by thousands of people, including leaders like Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad and RJD chief Lalu Prasad.

Modi, during his radio address 'Mann ki Baat' on Sunday, had said his government would not re-promulgate the land acquisition ordinance, which lapses on Monday.
