The Press Council of India (PCI) has sought details from the government over its order of restricting media activities around North Block and prohibiting journalists from any interaction with the Ministry officials. Earlier in a directive, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had limited the rights of media personnel and applied various conditions in the coveted North Block.

On July 23rd in its directive, MHA had appointed ADG (Media) as the single point of contact for all kinds of public matters and clarifications sought by media. The order also stated that all communications would be restricted to Media Room No. 9 in North Block. It also bounds media persons to interact or meet any official in Media Room only.

PCI showing concern over this issue has solicited a reply from the Information & Broadcasting Ministry which governs the body facilitating media access, Press Information Bureau. On Thursday, Justice (retd) Chandramauli Kumar Prasad, Chairperson PCI said that they have asked for government's perspective in this issue.
