Prime Minister Narendra Modi today talked about the essence of Hinduism at an international level by calling it a way of life instead of mere religion

"Hinduism is not a religion but a way of life," Prime Minister Modi said during a prayer meeting in Vancouver.

He also added "Hindu religion has worked for the benefit of nature, including wildlife, through the scientific way of life".

Narendra Modi was accompanied by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to a Gurudwara where he was presented with 'saropas' at the Gurudwara.

"The Sikhs in Canada had won respect for India through their work," said Narendra Modi while addressing the gathering.

He also talked about the teachings of Guru Nanak and the role of Sikhs in India's Independence struggle, including that of Bhagat Singh.

Modi also visited Lakshmi Narayan Temple where he praised the Indians living in Canada and talked about the need for working for humanity through Hinduism.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the role of Indian-origin Canadians in developing bilateral relations at both the religious places.
