Sixteen people have been arrested in Nagaland for the lynching of an Assamese youth accused of rape. Six people were arrested earlier and the police are likely to make more arrests on the basis of the images and videos of the incident.
The situation is nearing normalcy as 11 companies of India Reserve Battalion and three companies of Central Reserved Police Force have been deployed to maintain law and order in Dimapur. Though the curfew has been lifted till 3 p.m. in the area, communication services like internet, SMS and mobile have been blocked for the next 48 hours.
Political blaming has started amidst protests by truck drivers as Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi blamed the centre for the incident.
