Mob lynches rape accused in Nagaland, Government orders probe

The Nagaland government on Friday ordered a judicial probe into the murder of a rape accused. The state`s Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang assured Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi that the culprits will be dealt with severely.

The state administration has already suspended the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police.

In a blood curdling event in Nagaland, a mob stripped naked and lynched a man accused of multiple rapes to death. The eye for an eye sort of an event took place on Thursday. The angry locals dragged Sayed Farid Khan, a second hand car mechanic from Assam, out of his prison cell, defying all authority, or the notion, innocent till proven guilty.

The accused was under judicial custody under the charge of multiple rape against a Naga woman on February 23 and 24. He was arrested on February 25.

The situation is under control in the state as Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been imposed, preventing unlawful assembly.

One of the members of the mob has also died in the incident when the police opened fire to disperse the mob.
