Delhi Forest Department Plans to Develop 11 City Forests During Monsoon

Delhi's Forest Department plans to develop 11 forests across the city during the current financial year. Environment Minister Imran Hussain has directed the department to ensure at least six of these are developed in the monsoon season.

Hussain today reviewed the action plan for developing the city's forest and programme and for carrying out "mega tree plantation" during the monsoon season, the government said in a statement.

The Principal Chief Conservator of Forest informed the Minister that his department has proposed to develop 11 city forests during in 2019-20. Hussain directed the department to ensure that at least six city forests are developed early in the monsoon season itself.

"The Forest Department was directed by the Minister to submit a detailed action plan, including timelines, for of development of six city forests immediately," the statement said.

The Minister also directed the department to submit a proposal for carrying out mega tree plantation drive to be organized in the last week of July.

"The proposal should clearly indicate the agency-wise targets along with locations for carrying out tree plantation with active participation of people, especially children," it said. (IANS)
