Kolkata, August 27, 2017: Ishrat Jahan who was among the five petitioners in the case of triple talaq, wrote to the Chief Minister of West Bengal on Friday. She was seeking security from the CM for herself and her children as she had been facing threats from her neighbours and in-laws after the verdict of Supreme Court.

Jahan's legal adviser, Nazia Elahi Khan, said that a few of her neighbours and her in-laws were accusing her of going against her community's interests due to which they are subjecting her and her children to threats and abuses. Her in-laws reside in the same locality as hers.

"I have written a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seeking protection for my children and me," Ishrat told PTI.

"Copies of the letter have also been forwarded to the Howrah City Police Commissionerate and the local Golabari police station," she said.

She stated that the historical judgement of Supreme Court made her extremely happy. However, she, along with her legal advisor was forced to write to the Chief Minister when she started being teased, was threatened over calls and abused ever since the passing of the verdict.

"I urge you to take steps for providing security to me and my children," she said in the letter.
