50 Year-Old Bankey, the Oldest Rhino at Dudhwa National Park in Uttar Pradesh Dies

Lakhimpur Kheri, December 1, 2016: Bankey – the oldest rhino at Dudhwa National Park in Uttar Pradesh– has died.

50-year-old Bankey had fathered most of the rhinos at the Park. There are currently 32 rhinos in Dudhwa, most of them are his offsprings.

Bankey was one of the five rhinos brought to Dudhwa in 1984 from Assam under the rhino relocation programme.

Deputy Director Dudhwa, Mahavir Kaujlagi confirmed on Wednesday, "the founder member of rhino family, Bankey was found dead in Rhino Rehabilitation Park on Wednesday."

The Post-mortem was carried out by a team of three veterinary doctors and they confirmed that old-age related problems were the cause of his death.
