Kolkata: Accusing West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress of orchestrating attacks on its political rivals, the BJP has sought the intervention of Governor KN Tripathi in arresting the "extreme lawlessness" in the state.

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation led by state vice president Badshah Alam on Tuesday submitted a memorandum on a series of attacks on its party activists and leaders allegedly by Trinamool "goons".

We apprised the governor about the extreme lawlessness in the state and the Trinamool's repeated attacks on us in its bid to destroy the democratic fabric in the state, Alam said.

He also drew Governor's attention on the matter of brutal attack held on BJP team in Cooch Behar on last Saturday.

We also apprised him about the December 6 brutal attack on the BJP team in Cooch Behar district, in which several leaders including state vice president Malati Rava Roy were critically injured.

Claiming that even the governor expressed concern over the growing political violence, the party leaders said he assured them of taking suitable measures in the matter.

Alam also said a central BJP delegation comprising MPs will visit Pundibari in Cooch Behar where over 80 houses of party supporters were destroyed allegedly by Trinamool goons.

With assembly elections looming next year in Bengal, BJP would like to bring the government under pressure. CM Mamta Banerjee is a staunch critic of PM Narendra Modi. She met the PM, but she said it was regarding the demands of the funds.

BJP had relatively good results in Loksabha elections in Bengal but since then they have tasted bad results in other states which the next year's elections more interesting.(IANS)
