Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan was perchance not aware that his innocuous personal opinion over 'growing intolerance' in India would draw flak from various quarters to the extent that a police complaint was filed against him in this regard in New Delhi and his effigies burnt in various parts of the country.

At the eighth edition of the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards, Aamir Khan stunned the audience when he said that his wife, concerned over the prevailing conditions in the country, once suggested that their family moved out of India.

Anticipating a threat to Aamir Khan, the Maharashtra government beefed up security at his residence in Mumbai. On social media, however, his fans and detractors alike seem to be gunning for the actor for his "uncalled for and unwarranted" remarks on the prevailing conditions in India.

People had every right to disagree with him and even criticise the 'PK' actor for his views. However, the outright personal attacks and vitriol visible on Twitter have apparently proved one thing – that Aamir Khan was perhaps, to an extent, right.

The intolerance to respect others' point of view is what we all should be concerned about.
