"He (Alam) was released after we provided a copy of the High Court order to the jail authorities today," said Muslim League spokesperson Mohammed Rafiq Ganai. "But even as he was yet to come out of the jail, a few policemen, who were already present inside the jail, arrested him."

Ganai said that they have no information of where Alam was taken to and that the police are also not saying anything. "We are worried for his safety," he said. "Police have waged a war against the Muslim League leaders and activists. They (leaders) are being arrested and harassed by the men in uniform."

A bench of Justice Hasnain Masoodi had said last month that Alam's arrest was "undemocratic and repugnant to rule of law."

Alam's release in March this year had triggered a political row in Kashmir. Due to pressure from the BJP and the central government, the People's Democratic Party in Kashmir had to re-arrest Alam on April 17 for "sedition" and "waging war against the state."
