"Militants fired at a BSF convoy at Narsu Nallah situated between Udhampur town and Chenani town on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway today," a senior police officer said.

"Three people, including two BSF troopers and a militant, were killed while six BSF troopers were injured in this attack. They were shifted to hospital for treatment," he added.

The officer also said senior BSF troopers and police officers have rushed to the spot, which is 65 kilometres away from Udhampur district.

The officer said that the Jammu-Srinagar national highway is cleared for traffic each day by road-opening parties who employ high-tech equipment and sniffer dogs to ensure there are no explosive devices planted anywhere by the militants.

"In the wake of today's attack, we have deployed additional forces at mountain peaks overlooking the highway," the officer added.

All essentials of life and security force deployments are routed to the landlocked Kashmir Valley through the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
