Islamabad: The Pakistani authorities have dismissed 40 policemen who were on duty during a mass escape of militants from a central jail in 2013, media reported on Wednesday.

The policemen were deployed in the Dera Ismail Khan Central Jail in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in July 2013 when a group of militants attacked the jail, freeing over 200 inmates, including 15 hardened terrorists, reported Geo News.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant group had claimed responsibility for the attack that killed four prisoners and two policemen.

Those dismissed included an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a Head-Constable.
