The businessman, who has been identified as Laxman, and his friend have an office at Kucha Ghasi Ram area in Chandni Chowk.

Laxman lodged a police complaint, in which he said that he was attacked by the robbers on his way back from the New Delhi railway station. He had just arrived in the capital and had taken an auto from the station to go to his office.

When the auto reached G B Road five men on two bikes approached the vehicle. Laxman said that the robbers stopped the auto and demanded that he give them his bag. When he refused, they brandished a knife and threatened him with dire consequences. But before he could react, one of them took out a pepper can and sprayed it at him, snatched his bag and fled. Laxman immediately made a PCR call.

"The bag contained jewellery. The incident has been captured in a CCTV camera and our team is analysing the footage to identify the robbers," said DCP (central) Parmaditya.

An FIR has been registered under IPC Sections 390 (robbery), 34 (common intention) at Kamla Market police station. However, senior cops have refused to acknowledge the involvement of any gang behind the robbery. Police suspect the robbers must have followed the businessman from the station.
